Inventory visibility depends on consistent item references and timely transaction records. A shared view is more useful when teams agree on what each stock status means.

Logistics guide

Inventory visibility depends on consistent item references and timely transaction records. A shared view is more useful when teams agree on what each stock status means.

Create a common inventory language

  • Use consistent product identifiers and units of measure. Distinguish a single item, carton and pallet so quantities can be understood across systems.
  • Separate stock that is available from stock awaiting inspection, allocation or another action. Define who can update each status and when.
  • Reconcile expected receipts, recorded movements and physical counts. Investigate differences with a transaction history rather than adjusting figures without context.

Before you proceed

Agree on reporting frequency and an exception owner. Clear definitions make inventory information easier to use for replenishment and order planning.
