Accurate receiving begins with useful information before the truck arrives. A warehouse needs to know what is coming, how it is packed and how it should be identified in inventory.

Logistics guide

Accurate receiving begins with useful information before the truck arrives. A warehouse needs to know what is coming, how it is packed and how it should be identified in inventory.

Prepare the inbound handover

  • Send the expected arrival, shipment reference, item list and quantities. Explain whether the delivery contains pallets, cartons, mixed items or special handling units.
  • Agree on product identifiers, label format and the checks required at receipt. Clarify how shortages, damage or unexpected items should be reported.
  • Provide storage or segregation instructions where relevant. Confirm the receiving appointment and any documentation that must travel with the goods.

Before you proceed

Compare the receiving record with the expected shipment and resolve discrepancies before using the stock figures for fulfilment planning.
