Shipment tracking is most useful when each status has a clear operational meaning. A planned milestone is not the same as a completed event, and an estimated arrival is not a confirmed delivery appointment.

Logistics guide

Shipment tracking is most useful when each status has a clear operational meaning. A planned milestone is not the same as a completed event, and an estimated arrival is not a confirmed delivery appointment.

Turn tracking into useful decisions

  • Distinguish booking confirmation, collection, departure, arrival, release and final delivery. Ask which party supplies each status and when it was last updated.
  • Use a consistent booking, container or transport-document reference when requesting an update. Include the milestone you are trying to verify.
  • When a schedule changes, confirm the effect on receiving appointments, storage arrangements and onward transport before changing the delivery plan.

Before you proceed

Escalate missing or conflicting information with the shipment reference and required decision time. A clear question usually produces a more actionable response than a general request for status.
