Full-container-load and less-than-container-load services suit different shipment profiles. Compare the complete movement, not just the headline freight rate, before deciding how to ship.

Logistics guide

Full-container-load and less-than-container-load services suit different shipment profiles. Compare the complete movement, not just the headline freight rate, before deciding how to ship.

Compare the practical trade-offs

  • FCL allocates a container to the shipment; LCL combines smaller consignments. Consider volume, weight, packing strength and how much handling the goods can tolerate.
  • Ask for the full origin-to-destination cost scope. Collection, consolidation, terminal handling, deconsolidation and delivery can affect the comparison.
  • Check cargo-ready dates, receiving arrangements and consolidation schedules. Confirm any commodity restrictions before committing to either option.

Before you proceed

There is no universal volume at which one option is always better. Request both scenarios using the same cargo data and delivery requirements.
